Lynx Men Win Rhodes Invite for Second Straight Year

9/26/2009 5:06:02 PM

With a brand new home course at Shelby Farms the men's team was eager to put on a show at the Rhodes Invitational.  They did so by finishing first place on Saturday morning with a score of 57 points.  Although the course was not in the best of conditions after two weeks of rain and four other races that day the men's team was able to pull through with the win.
The first Lynx to cross the finish line in a fourth place finish was sophomore Cody Beatty with a time of 27:19.  Beatty continues to have a great season and for the second week in a row lead the men's team.  After running much of the race with Beatty, junior Chris Moore fell back slightly in the last mile to finish in seventh place with a time of 27:24.  Moore continues to run well this year after returning from an injury filled sophomore year.
With the absence of third man Will Hawes due to illness, freshman Chris Hardy had the best race of his young career and ran a time of 28:20 for thirteenth place overall.  Sophomore Evan Nelsen was right behind in fourteenth place with a time of 28:23.  Finishing off the scoring was another freshman having a great year Matthew Miller.  With another strong race, Miller ran a time of 28:41 good for nineteenth place.  Junior Josh Deaton and freshman Michael Ascuitto were twenty-fifth and thirtieth overall with times of 29:13 and 29:29 respectively.
The Lynx will not race again until October 10th at the Gibson Family Collegiate Invitational in Terre Haute, IN.  The race will feature the toughest competition yet for the Lynx as they will face Depauw and Washington University in St. Louis along with other strong Division I, II, and III programs.
