Game 1 Box Score     Game 2 Box Score

Rhodes used clutch hitting this afternoon to take two games from the visiting Big Blue of Millikin by socres of 5-4 and 6-5.  The Lynx scored 4 in the bottom of the 7th to take game 1, and used a 3-run 6th to overcome a 5-3 deficit and complete the sweep.

Millikin jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game 1, with 3 runs on 3 hits in the 3rd, and added another run in the 4th on a solo home run from Missy Herold.  Millikin would hold the 4-0 lead until the bottom of the 6th, when sophomore Allison Conn led off with a double and scored on a single by junior Rebekah Moore.  Rhodes would then load the bases on a double by sophomore Sara Bowen and a walk to junior Armanda Venezia, but failed to push any more runs across, and entered the bottom of the 7th trailing 4-1.

Kelli Zomer, Caroline Cooper, and Conn each collected infield singles to lead off the 7th, loading the bases with no outs and putting the game-winning run at the plate.  With 1 out, Bowen scored Zomer with a single, then freshman Elise Suna singled to score Cooper.  Conn would score to tie the game on an RBI groundout by Venezia, setting the table for junior Karli Alvino.

With the score tied at 4 and runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs, Alvino ripped a line drive into right field to score pinch runner Cassi Bails-McLeod and give the Lynx a thrilling, come from behind 5-4 win.

Sophomore Cindy Bitters picked up her 3rd win of the season in the circle, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6.  Conn was 4-4 with 2 runs scored in the game, while Bowen was 3-3 with an RBI.

The Lynx got on the board first in game 2, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning.  Junior Jennifer Whatley led off the inning with a single to left, and advanced to second when Zomer reached on an error.  Conn again delivered the big hit, this time with an inside the park home run to center to give the Lynx a 3-0 lead.

Millikin answered in the top of the 4th, scoring 3 runs on 3 hits to tie the game at 3.  They picked up 2 more runs in the 5th on 3 hits, putting the Lynx down 5-3, which is where the score remained until the bottom of the 6th.

Conn and Moore walked to lead off the 6th, and Bowen singled to load the bases with no outs for Suna.  Suna came up big once again, delivering a 2 RBI single that scored Conn and pinch-runner Bails-McLeod to tie the game at 5.  Venezia grounded out to second, but Bowen scored on the play to give the Lynx a 6-5 lead heading into the 7th.  Following a leadoff walk, the Lynx doubled up the Big Blue on a popped up bunt attempt and held on for the 6-5 win.

Freshman Chelsea Peters started in the circle for the Lynx, going 5 strong innings, giving up 5 hits, 4 earned runs and striking out 5 in taking the no decision.  Bowen came in relief in the 6th, and picked up 3 strikeouts, giving up no hits to earn the win in relief.  Conn went 1-2 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI for the Lynx, while Suna was 1-3 with 2 RBI.

The Lynx are now 7-3 on the season and will return to action Tuesday vs. MacMurray.
