After a pair of walks and 2 hits in the 6th, MacMurray had cut the lead to 6-2 and had the bases loaded with cleanup hitter Jennifer Ogden at the plate. Ogden blasted a grand-slam over the right centerfield fence to tie the game at 6 heading into the bottom of the 6th.
The Lynx bats answered the call, however, to seal the win. With 2 outs and no one on, Zomer doubled to left center, then scored on a single from Cooper to give Rhodes a 7-6 lead. After a single by Conn and a walk to Moore, Ryan delivered the big blow with a grand slam down the left field line that bounced off the foul pole, giving the Lynx an 11-6 lead.
MacMurray would not go down without a fight in the 7th, loading the bases with 2 outs and Ogden at the plate, prompting Coach Hicks to bring sophomore Sara Bowen out of the bullpen in relief of starting pitcher Ashlyn Chandler. Bowen struck Ogden out to earn her first save of the season and seal the 11-6 win for the Lynx.
Chandler earned the victory in the circle in her first collegiate start, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits.
Rhodes got on the board first in game 2 on a solo home run from Suna in the second, and added 5 more in the 3rd. The Lynx 3rd inning was highlighted by a suicide squeeze from Cooper to score junior Jennifer Whatley, as well as another RBI single from Suna and a 2 RBI single from junior Armanda Venezia.
The Lynx tacked on 4 more in the 4th, including a 2-run home run from Zomer, the first of her career, taking a 10-1 lead into the top of the 5th. Once again, MacMurray would not go down without a fight. WIth 2 outs and a runner on first, the Highlanders rattled off 5 consecutive hits to bring the score to 10-5 heading into the bottom of the 5th,
Zomer and Conn singled in the 5th for the Lynx, and after a walk by Bowen, Suna again came up big with a 2-out triple to score 3 runs and end the game on the 8-run mercy rule at 13-5.
Freshman Chelsea Peters picked up her second win of the season in the circle, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6. Overall, the day belonged to the Lynx freshman. Zomer was 4-6 with a double, a home run, 4 runs scored and 2 RBI, while Cooper went 3-8 with a double, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Suna reached base in all 8 plate appearances, racking up 8 RBI with a 6 for 7 performance, including a walk, a home run, a triple, 4 singles, a stolen base and reached base once on an error. Peters and Chandler both put forth solid efforts in the circle, each picking up the win.
