The Rhodes baseball team defeated DII Christian Brothers University 19-3 at CBU before the mercy rule was enacted in the bottom of the seventh. Rhodes jumped out to an early 6-1 lead after three innings and stretched it to 13-2 after four. The Rhodes offense pounded out 19 hits on the day as the Lynx pitching staff scattered 8 buc hits. Senior SS J.R. Bizzell collected his 200th career hit in the top of the second with a RBI single to centerfield.
Sophomore Taylor Babich picked up the victory working the first four innings allowing two runs, striking out 4 and did not walk anyone. Sophomore Hunter Chandler worked the fifth not allowing a hit and striking out one. Sophomore Jhonny Utt worked the final two frames allowing one run and struck out one.
The Lynx offense was led by sophomore 3B Hunter Moore who was 2-2 on the day with a double, 3 runs scored, 2 RBIs, and walked twice. Sophomore C Matt Frank went 2-4 on the day with two doubles and two runs scored. Senior SS J.R. Bizzell went 1-2 with an RBI. Junior SS Brooks Royer went 2-3 on the day with 2 runs scored, 3 RBIs, and a walk. Freshman CF Travis Perkins went 1-3 with 4 RBIs, one run scored, and walked once. Sophomore Austin Marcum had a pinch hit grandslam in the seventh. The homerun was Marcum's first collegiate hit.
Rhodes will return to action this Saturday as they open conference play against DePauw University. Rhodes will play a double header starting at 12:00 on Saturday and a single game at 12:00 on Sunday. All games will be played at Stauffer Field on the campus of Rhodes College.
