The Rhodes College baseball team defeated LaGrange College this afternoon at Stauffer Field 7-5 in their first game of the Rhodes College Classic. Sophomore Hunter Chandler picked up the victory after relieving starter Austin Carden. Chandler is now 2-0 on the year as the Lynx improved their record to 10-2 and have won six straight.
The Lynx pitching staff had a very effective day as Freshman Austin Carden worked the first six innings giving up 5 hits, 5 runs, 2 earned, and struck out 6. Sophomore Hunter Chandler entered the game in the top of the seventh and allowed 2 hits, struck out four and did not allow a run. Neither Carden nor Chandler allowed a walk.
The Rhodes offense was paced by Senior SS J.R. Bizzell who went 3-5 with a double, 2 RBIs, 3 runs, and stole a base. Senior RF Mason Mosby went 1-3 with a run scored, stole a base, and walked twice. Junior 2B Andy Boucher went 1-3 with a run scored and walked once. Sophomore DH Matt Gilbert went 1-3 with a RBI and got hit by a pitch. Sophomore C Chris Conkell was 1-3 with a RBI and a walk.
The Lynx will continue the Rhodes College Classic tomorrow at 10:30 against Emory University. Tomorrow's game will also mark the official opening of their new baseball facility where Rhodes College president, Dr. Bill Trout will throw out the first pitch.
