Lynx Defeat Greensboro

The Rhodes College baseball team defeated Greensboro College 9-3 this afternoon in Atlanta, GA.  Rhodes put up 2 in the top of the first and was able to hold onto the lead for the remained of the game.  Sophomore Matt Gilbert hit a 3 run homer in the ninth to put the Lynx up 9-3 and put the game out of reach.  Freshman Austin Carden picked up his first collegiate victory to improve to 1-0 on the year.  Rhodes is now 7-2 on the season.

Austin Carden worked worked the first five innings allowing 7 hits, 3 earned runs, struck out 1 and walked 1 before handing the game over to the Lynx bullpen.  Sophomore Hunter Chander worked three innings allowing only two runners to reach base.  Chandler struck out two.  Junior Max Gertz finished the game out working the ninth allowing a walk and a hit.

The Lynx offense was led by Sophomore DH Matt Gilbert who was 2-3 on the day with a homerun, double, scored twice, drove in 3, walked twice and stole a base.  Sophomore 3B Brent Lindsey was 3-5 with a double, run scored and a RBI.  Senior RF Mason Mosby went 2-4 with two runs scored and walked once.  Sophomore C Chris Conkell was 2-4 with 3 RBIs.

Rhodes will return to action tomorrow morning at 10:00 against Emory University at Emory in the third game of the Rawlings Classic.  Rhodes will then take North Carolina Wesleyan at 4:00 at Oglethorpe University.
