Box Score

The Rhodes baseball team defeated Piedmont College 10-7 in Demorest, GA to take the first game of the Rawlings Classic.  Rhodes put up 4 in the top of the second, Piedmont then tied the game in the fifth and took the lead in the sixth.  Rhodes then countered with one in the seventh and five in the eighth and were able to hold off a late Piedmont charge in the ninth.  Sophomore Taylor Babich picked up his third victory of the season to improve to 3-1 on the year.

On the day Babich went 7 strong innings, surrendered 6 hits, striking out 8 and did not allow a walk.  Babich gave up five runs, four of which were earned.  Senior Charles Simmons worked the eighth and ninth and was able to hold off Piedmont to secure the victory for the Lynx.

The Lynx offense was paced by Sophomore 1B Brogan Jayne who was 3-4 on the day with a triple, scored twice, stole a base and got hit by a pitch.  Senior RF Mason Mosby went 2-3 with a double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, walked once, got hit by a pitch and stole a base.  Senior J.R. Bizzell was 2-5 at the plate, scoring once, drove in one and stole a base.  Sophomore Brent Lindsey was 1-2 on the day with two RBIs, scored once, walked twice, got hit by a pitch, and stole 2 bases.  Freshman Travis Perkins was 2-5 with a double, drove in 2, scored twice, got hit by a pitch, and stole a base.

Rhodes will return to action at noon tomorrow against Greensboro College at Oglethorpe University in their second game of the Rawlings Classic.
