The Rhodes baseball team dropped their second game of the season Sunday afternoon to Huntingdon College, 5-4. Rhodes was limited to one hit through six innings. The Lynx pitching staff was solid all day keeping Rhodes in the game. Sophomore Taylor Babich took the loss for the Lynx and falls to 2-1 on the season as Rhodes is now 4-2.
Sophomore Taylor Babich has his best outing of the season going 5 2/3 innings allowing 2 earned, gave up 3 hits, struck out 6, and walked 3. Senior Charles Simmons continued his successful start of the season going 2.1 innings, struck out one and did not allow a runner to reach base.
The Lynx offense was quiet for much of the game came to life late in the ball game. Rhodes has several chances in the 7th, 8th, and 9th, but were able to put together anything more than a single run. Freshman CF Travis Perkins was 2-3 on the day with a run scored, RBI, walk, got hit by a pitch, and stole a base. Senior RF Mason Mosby was 2-5 with a double, RBI, scored a run, and stole a base. Junior LF Brandon Valentine went 2-4 with a run scored and stole a base.
Rhodes will return to action on Tuesday at home against Rust College. First pitch is set for 2:00.
