In a ten team field, the Lynx finished 2nd at the SCAC Championship Meet in Atlanta, just 2 points behind DePauw University, 33-35. In what came down to a dual meet, the Lynx placed five runners in the top 10, and 6 runners on the All-Conference Team (top 14 runners), but came up just short of their 7th conference title since 1995. Nine of the top ten runners in the meet represented either Rhodes or DePauw. “We knew it would be tough battle,” said Head Coach Robert Shankman. “Coming into the meet, they were ranked 10th nationally. We hoped we would beat them with them with our depth at the 4th, 5th, and 6th spots. Our women did a fantastic job, placing our 6th runner in front of their 5th…..but they did a nice job up front and we able to edge us out. Nevertheless, we almost captured a SCAC title today, and I could not have been more proud of our team. What a great group of student-athletes.”
In sloppy, rainy conditions, sophomore Taylor Stephens lead the Lynx over the 6000 meter course, finishing 4th overall in 23:37. Team captain Cybil Covic (Sr, Cordova, Tn), junior Kelsey Dudziak (Williamstown, MA), and senior Melissa DeFabrizio (St Petersburg, FL), finished in 6th, 7th, and 8th place in 23:46, 23:59, and 24:09. Junior Anna Johnson (Birmingham, AL), 10th place, rounded out the scoring for the Rhodes in 24:24. Junior Sandy Henin (Cordova, TN) also made the All-Conference team, finishing 6th for the lynx, and 14th overall, in 24:57.
On November 14, the Lynx travel to Greensboro, NC for the Southeast Region Championship Meet. Currently ranked 2nd in the region, the top 2 teams advance to the National Championship Meet in Cleveland on November 21st. “I think we have a great shot at a national bid….and hopefully a region title along the way.”
