The University of the South handed the #12 Rhodes Women's Soccer team their first Division III and SCAC defeat of 2008 at Sewanee on Sunday by a score of 3-0.
Despite a strong start where the Lynx saw several good scoring opportunities, Rhodes was unable to score on the Tigers and the momentum began to shift in their favor. With less than 5 minutes to play in the first half Sewanee struck when Cat Ariail scored off a header to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead heading into half time.
Sewanee struck again less than 5 minutes into the second half when Memphis native Evey Gannaway scored on a breakaway, assisted by Faith Spencer. Spencer scored a goal of her own in the 83rd minute to seal the game for the Tigers.
Rhodes falls to 7-2-1 in 2008 (3-1-0 in the SCAC) and will face the Hendrix College Warriors on Homecoming Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 3:00pm.
