9/19/2008 7:51:20 PM

On a rain soaked field, the 15th ranked Rhodes Women's Soccer Team defeated the 22 ranked Trinity University Tigers by a score of 1-0 to open SCAC play. The Lynx scored in the 78th minute when junior midfielder Bridget Nicholson finished off a corner kick to help Rhodes defeat Trinity for the first time in 17 years.

The last time Rhodes defeated Trinity was in the SCAC championship game in 1991 when the Lynx defeated the Tigers by a score of 1-0 to clinch their first and only SCAC championship.

Rhodes' defensive line including seniors Katy Joyner, Lizzie Wright and Kathleen Perniciaro along with junior Colleen Callaghan helped junior goalkeeper Becca Clarin earn the team's 2nd consecutive shutout over a nationally ranked team.

The Lynx got on the scoreboard in the 78th minute when Rhodes earned a corner kick which was served into the penalty area by freshman forward Julia Clapper, the ball bounced around inside the 6 yard box until it fell to Nicholson who stuck the ball in the roof of the net past the Trinity keeper.

#15 Rhodes improves to 5-1-1 in 2008 and will continue SCAC play against Southwestern University on Sunday, September 19, 2008 at 2:00pm at Rhodes.
