The Rhodes College Men's Soccer team won the Rhodes College Classic for the first time in 4 years, by defeating Fontbonne University (0-2) 2-0. With the win Rhodes improves to 2-0 on the season.
Both teams were held scoreless in a physical and hard fought first half. Then in the 55th minute Jesse Cavett (Hixson, TN/Baylor School) crossed a ball to Nick Bailey (Dallas, TX/St. Marks School) who headed the eventual game winner into the net. Then in the 69th minute Logan Eberly (Evansville, IN) added the insurance goal from Ilan Isaacs(Pelham, NY/San Francisco University High) Eberly made his way through two defenders and then slotted the ball into the net from 12 yards away.
The Lynx defense held onto the shutout and was led by goalkeeper Alex Margolin (Austin, TX/St. Stephens School) who made 1 save. Also key contributors to the shutout were defenders Brett Simek (Millstadt, IL/ St. Louis University High School), Joey Madere (New Orleans, LA), Jesse Cavett, Tommy Lockwood (Beverly, MA/St. John's Prep), Justin Birkmeyer (Landenberg, PA/The Tatnall School), and Christian Kurth (Jackson, TN/University School of Jackson).
Rhodes out shot Fontbonne 17 to 6, and also led in corners 4 to 2.
DJ Kaiping made 10 saves including a penalty kick for Fontbonne University.
