1977 FOOTBALL TEAM TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME

6/23/2008 4:31:18 PM

The record-breaking 1977 Lynx football team, which posted a 9-1-1 record and a top ten NCAA Division III ranking, will be inducted into the Rhodes Athletic Hall of Fame during Homecoming festivities on Friday, October 3. The nine wins by the 77 team still ranks as the most wins by a Rhodes team in school history.

The 77 team was led by their charismatic head coach, Dick Thornton, a former Canadian Football League standout for thirteen years. Current Athletic Hall of Fame members R.J. Harper, Jerry Hampton, Tom Mullady, Jim Fink and the late Craig Solomon were members of the fabulous 77 team.

Please email Mike McConkey at mmcconkey@bellsouth.net with your home address, cell phone and email address.  In the near future more information will be forthcoming about events to honor the 77 team on Friday and Saturday, October 3 and 4, during Homecoming Weekend.
