Rhodes Baseball Defeats #9 Marietta College

The Rhodes College baseball team defeated #9 Marietta College this afternoon 10-5 at Stauffer Field. The Lynx jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the third before Marietta put up one in the top of fourth and tied the game with a four run 7th. The Lynx offense responded with a five run bottom of the seventh to put the score at 10-5 where it remained for the rest of the game. Junior Charles Simmons picked up the win for the Lynx. Simmons is now 1-0 on the year.

Senior Robert Flanagan started the game going six innings striking out three and gave up one earned run. Simmons went one third of an inning after relieving Senior Jeff Mueller. Simmons struck out one. Freshman Taylor Babich pitched the 8th and 9th to close out the game. Babich struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth.

The Lynx offense had a very productive day, which was started by Junior shortstop who led off the game with a double down the right field line. Bizzell ended the game going 2-4 with 2 doubles, walked once and stole a base. Senior catcher Matt Beesley was 3-4 with an RBI, scored once, walked, and stole a base. Senior DH Daniel Vanaman was 2-3 with an RBI, got hit by a pitch twice, and stole a base. Junior right fielder Mason Mosby was 2-3 on the day with an RBI, 2 runs scored, walked once, and stole a base.

The Lynx will return to action Tuesday afternoon with Rust College before opening conference play this weekend with a four game series with Oglethorpe University. Friday's game will be played at AutoZone Park at 3:00.
