Conway, Arkansas ~ The Rhodes College Women's Basketball notched their fifth straight win tonight with a 62-55 victory over Hendrix College. While Hendrix is a SCAC opponent, this game did not count toward the league standings. The win is the Lynx fourth straight road victory as well.
Rhodes scored the first six points of the game and lead for all of but one possession in the game, a 12-12 tie at the 12 minute mark in the first half. A Kristen Lytle jumper broke the tie and the Lynx built as large as an eight point lead before Hendrix closed to within one point. Rhodes then closed the half on a 7-2 run and took a 39-33 halftime lead. It was more of the same in the second half as Rhodes would extend their lead to as many as 11 points before the final of 62-55.
On the night, the Lynx placed three players in double digits with LaKeya McGill's 21 points, Jenilee Pate had 11 and Becky Atnip scored 10. Cameron Whitaker and Brittany Looney each had 7 rebounds, and Lytle grabbed another 5. Whitaker also finished with a game high 8 blocks. Rhodes defense was solid holding Hendrix to just 29.6% from the field for the game, including just 4 of 20 from beyond the arc.
With the win, the Lynx move to 5-1 heading into their next game against Rust College. Tipoff for that game is scheduled at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, December 10th in Mallory Gymnasium.
