The Rhodes Men's Soccer team traveled to cross-town rival Christian Brothers University on Wednesday night. An early surge in the 2nd half gave CBU the edge over the Lynx, 4-2.
CBU would score first in the 9th minute; Brandon Van Cleave would serve in a slow looping cross to the back post that found Brendan Ross. Ross was able to head it in just underneath the cross bar. The score line would till halftime.
CBU came out firing in the 2nd half, and was rewarded for their efforts. The Bucs were able to score 3 goals in 9 minutes. Usman Hussain scored twice in the 49th minute and again in the 51st minute. Alex Bermel would assist both goals. Then CBU scored again in the 57th minute, when Joshua Menard scored an unassisted goal.
Rhodes would come battling back in the 66th minute. Junior Captian Zach Berry chased down a ball into the corner, split two defenders, and struck a solid shot into the lower corner of the goal. Then in the 81st minute Junior Logan Eberly would finish a bouncing ball in the Bucs' goal box.
In the last 5 minutes the Lynx had several chances from free kicks and corners to try and close the score to a single goal. Unfortunately they were unable to capitalize.
The Lynx look to end their 3 game losing skid when they travel to Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, this Saturday at 1pm.
