Memphis, Tennessee ~ The Rhodes College Men's basketball snapped their losing streak tonight downing the University of Dallas 72-57. The win ended a four game losing streak for the Lynx and moved their record back to .500 (6-6) heading into this weekend's SCAC match-ups versus DePauw University and Centre College.
Again first half shooting troubles slowed the Lynx, who were able to take a three point lead into halftime behind 12 first half points from
Jared Hoskins (Rossville, GA). The cold shooting kept Dallas in the game as the Lynx were never able to build a lead larger than four points. In the second half, defense would be the name of the game, as Rhodes held Dallas to 20.7% shooting. The defensive stops led to some easy transition buckets that helped the Lynx shoot 43% from the floor in the second half.
On the night
Cory Smith (Bartlett, TN) led the Lynx in scoring and rebounding with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Hoskins finished with 17 points. The Lynx bench would net 25 points on the night being led by
Larry Cunningham, Jr. (St. Louis, MO) with 7 points.
The win moves the Lynx to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the SCAC. Rhodes is again in action at Mallory Gymnasium this weekend with conference foes DePauw University (9-3; 1-2) and Centre College (10-1; 3-0). Friday night's tipoff is set for 8 pm versus DePauw and Sunday's time is 3:00 pm versus Centre College.
