Memphis, Tennessee ~ The Rhodes College Men's Basketball team couldn't quite overcome the hot shooting of Centre College today in Mallory Gymnasium, as they fell to the Colonels 84-77.  The Lynx, who have struggled the past few games from the field were able to score buckets but clutch shooting and timely free throws were just to much for the Lynx.  With the loss, Rhodes' record drops to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in SCAC play.

The Lynx led at halftime 35-34 as they were able to shoot 47% from the field in the first half and had a team high 11 assists in the half.  The half was tightly contested with each team building a small lead only to see the other go on a run to bring the score to even.  Centre led by as many as seven points in the first half, but  four straight points by freshman Nathan Ollie (Memphis, TN) and a layup by Dean Shroyer (Homewood, AL) got the Lynx to within one point.  A jumpshot by Joe Thompson (Nashville, TN) gave Rhodes the lead with just over 2 minutes to play in the first stanza.  The teams traded baskets with Rhodes heading into the lockerroom up one.

The second half was more of the same, a highly competive battle between the two teams.  Centre stretched the lead to 10 points with 12 minutes to go in the game but Rhodes chipped away and got to within 3 points with 3 minutes to play.  Unfortunately for the home crowd, that was as close as the Lynx got, as Centre would make free throws down the stretch and come away with the victory.

On the afternoon, freshman Nathan Ollie led the Lynx with a career high 20 points on 9-13 shooting.  Cory Smith (Bartlett, TN) scored 15 points with Reid Hamilton (Birmingham, AL) and Thomspon chipping in 14 and 11, respectively.  The Lynx dished out a season high 17 assists with three different players handing out 4 apiece.  Senior Justin Long was one of those players and grabbed a team high 10 rebounds.

Rhodes is back in action this weekend as they take on Trinity University (TX) and Southwestern University on Friday and Saturday in Texas.
