Memphis, Tennessee~ The Rhodes College Men's Basketball team won its home opener against Principia College 83-69. The win ups the Lynx record to 3-2.
In the first half Rhodes looked like it was still tired from traveling over the weekend as it faced two conference opponents. Principia outrebounded and outscored the Lynx 30-29 despite 11 first half points by Cory Smith (Bartlett, TN). The Lynx were off from the field as they shot just 10-36 from the field in the first half. The second twenty minutes was a different story. Behind the red hot shooting of sophomore Jared Hoskins (Rossville, GA) the Lynx scored 54 second half points in route to an 83-69 win over the Panthers. Hoskins scored twelve straight points during the opening minutes of the second stanza. With Hoskins lights out from downtown the lanes became wide open for the rest of the Lynx squad as they took advantage with 26 points in the paint during the second half.
The Lynx would be led in scoring by Hoskins with 21 points. Also netting double digit points were Smith (16) and Nashville native Joe Thompson (14). Thompson also grabbed 8 rebounds while sophomore Reid Hamilton seized 12 rebounds including 5 off the offensive glass to lead the Lynx. Junior Jeff Blumenthal (Acworth, GA) would come off the bench as pass out 6 assists on the night.
The Lynx are in action again tomorrow night in Mallory Gymnasium. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 pm.
