Field Hockey beats DePauw in Strokes

Rhodes came out strong scoring 12 minutes into play on a goal by Lindsey Gurkovich with the assist coming from Katie Slimp.  Seven minutes later DePauw tied the game on a goal by Meredith Ellis but Rhodes rallied with Gurkovich scoring her second goal with nine minutes to play on an assist from Sara Haney.  Only three minutes later DePauw followed with a pair of goals by Carolyn Mueller and Brooke Hollingsworth and held for a 3-2 lead at the half.  Rhodes tied the game on a goal by Charlie Wagner (assist Sara Haney) with 16 minutes to play.  In regulation play Rhodes out shot DePauw 21-7 and held a 7-6 advantage in penalty corners. 

Overtime started off strong and well played by both teams, but the Lynx took control and dominated as play wore on but were unable to score.  In the two overtime periods Rhodes out shot DePauw 10-5 and held a 11-2 penalty corner advantage. 

The Lynx went on to win 4-3 in the first round of penalty strokes.  Four out of five Rhodes' players found the back of the net: Jenny Mueller, Maria Cowley, O'Brien Wolff, and Charlie WagnerJulz Anderson blocked two of four Tiger strokes and defended the cage in the second half and both overtimes.  The Lynx will take on Hendrix for Homecoming and Senior Day on Saturday October 20th.
