Rhodes Women Finish 4th at Millikin Classic

The women's cross country team performed well in their first 6 kilometer race of the season, as they placed 4th out of 17 teams at the Millikin Classic in Decatur, Illinois. This was the team's final race before the SCAC Championships November 1 in Terre Haute, Indiana. Washington University edged Eastern Illinois University 60 to 61 for the team title. Elmhurst College was next at 104, Rhodes followed with 118, while North Park University rounded out the top 5 teams. Marie Brandewiede led the Lynx with her 4th top 10 finish of the season. A field of 174 runners finished the race. Principia College graduate Steph Hood, competing unattached, held off Elmhurst's Kathleen Brice to win the meet in 20:47.

Brandewiede was just 3 seconds shy of her all-time best 6,000 meter performance at Millikin. The Lynx team captain ran 22:37 for 9th place. Freshman Jennifer Emo and senior Cheryl Finster continued to perform well as Rhodes' 2-3 runners, finishing 15th and 24th in 23:04 and 23:33, respectively. May King and Caroline Owens were the team's final scorers, taking 42nd and 46th in 24:16 and 24:23. Lizzie Phillips (55th in 24:52) and Abbey Walker (82nd in 26:03) rounded out the top 7.
