The women's cross country team scored 196 points to take 5th place out of 23 teams at the New York University Invitational at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx. Marie Brandewiede was Rhodes top finisher for the 3rd straight week. Unranked Wesleyan University tied the College of New Jersey for the team title, while Bowdoin, Dickinson, and Rhodes rounded out the top 5 teams. New Jersey, Bowdoin, and Dickinson are all ranked among the nation's top 25 teams. Rhodes bested NCAA South/Southeast rival Mary Washington College by 3 points. Dickinson's Callie Bradley won the meet's individual title in 18:52.
Team captain Brandewiede had a strong race, taking 6th place out of 241 runners. Van Cortland's hills proved to be no problem for the senior, as she ran 19:38 to lead the Lynx. Freshman Jennifer Emo also cracked the meet's top 20, taking 19th place in 20:12, her best time of the season. Cheryl Finster was 38th in 20:52, while Caroline Owens (21:29 for 65th) and Lizzie Phillips (21:35 for 68th) closed out the scoring for Rhodes. May King and Abbey Walker rounded out the Lynx top 7 with their 75th and 120th place finishes.
