Rhodes Women Finish 24th at NCAA Championship

The Rhodes women's cross country team ended the 2002 season with a 24th place finish at the NCAA Championships, hosted by St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Senior captain Amy Paine led Rhodes for the sixth time this season, placing 54th in team scoring and 87th overall in a time of 23:12 on the 6000-meter course. Paine was followed by junior Marie Brandewiede, who placed 68th in 23:32. Senior captains Elizabeth Wester and Betsy Bogler were the Lynx third and fourth runners, placing 147th and 148th in 24:45 and 24:46, respectively. Freshman Marguerite King finished 149th in 24:52 as Rhodes' final scoring runner. Senior Lauren Glas and freshman Haley McConaghy rounded out the Lynx top seven, placing 162nd and 166th. This was the first group in Rhodes cross country history to qualify for the NCAA Championships as a team. Williams College dominated the team competition with a mere 42 points, while Wartburg College sophomore Missy Buttry claimed the individual title by an incredible 55 seconds in a course record time of 20:17.
