Men's Cross Country Finishes 2nd at Sewanee

Paced by senior Bryan McCarthy's third place finish, the Rhodes men's cross country team took second out of eleven competing teams in the University of the South Invitational at the Sewanee golf course. Emory University had five runners in the top six at the meet, as they cruised to the team championship with 18 points. Emory was followed by Rhodes, Tennessee Tech University in third, Centre College in fourth, and the University of the South in fifth. Emory's Phil Hagedorn used a late-race surge to capture the individual victory in 27:06.

McCarthy survived the heat and rolling hills to cover the eight-kilometer course in 27:17, while two of his teammates joined him in the meet's top ten. Freshman Colin Strickland edged sophomore Matt Wood, as the pair took 7th and 8th in 27:47 and 27:49, respectively. Sophomore Matthew Sauter was 16th in 29:17, and freshman David Bell was 21st in 29:42, to finish the Lynx scoring. Bill Harrison and Todd Ridley rounded out Rhodes' top seven, as they took 30th and 38th in the meet
