Senior Brian McCarthy finished fourth to lead the Rhodes men's cross country team to a second place finish in the King Cat Invitational at Plough Park. Murray State won the meet with 21 points, followed by Rhodes, the University of Tennessee at Martin in third, Christian Brothers University in fourth, and Mississippi College in fifth. The University of Memphis, led by Balazs Laszlo's individual victory, also competed.
McCarthy covered the challenging four-mile course in 21:41, while two of his teammates took top ten spots. Sophomore Matt Wood was 7th in 21:56, and freshman Colin Strickland was 9th in 22:14. Sophomore Matthew Sauter and freshman David Bell were both timed in 23:10, as they closed out the Lynx scoring, finishing in 17th and 18th places, respectively. Harris Golden and Bill Harrison rounded out the Rhodes top seven, running to 22nd and 23rd place finishes.
