Seven outstanding alumni selected for induction to the Athletic Hall of Fame

Seven outstanding alumni will be inducted into the Rhodes Athletic Hall of Fame during Homecoming Weekend, October 29-30, 2010.  

Bob Welsh 59' - Outstanding Cross-Country and Track athlete for the Lynx, who held the school record in the 2-mile run for several years.  Served as Captain of the Cross-Country team his senior year.  Bob also played #3 on the golf team for three years despite the golf and track seasons overlapping.  Served as Student Council President his senior year.  Elected Mr. Southwestern by his classmates, Bob graduated Phi Beta Kappa.

Paul Cox '65 (posthumous) - Standout football and baseball player.  The Most Valuable Player on the 1964 baseball team.  Served as the Captain of the 1965 Lynx baseball team.  Retired from high school football coaching after the 2009 season as the 3rd winningest high school football coach in Shelby County history and one of the top ten winningest coaches in Tennessee.  

Mike Hettinger 68' - Outstanding player for the Lynx in basketball.  Named to the All College Athletic Conference team in 1966-67 and 1967-68.  During his junior year Mike averaged 20 points per game and during his senior year he averaged 15 points per game.  Selected as the best offensive player for the Lynx his junior and senior years.  

John Loebel '79 - Won the College Athletic Conference (CAC)  golf tournament his freshman year (1976) by six strokes and was selected to play in the NCAA Division III National Championship.  Played #1 on the team each of his four years.  Was the individual runnerup in the 1978 CAC tournament.  Served as team captain his sophmore-senior years.  Was the medalist over 20 times during his career.

Donald Duggan 86' - Four year starter in football and school record holder in track and field.  Named to the All College Athletic Conference (CAC) football team as a runningback his senior year when the Lynx finished with an 8-1-1 record.  School record holder and CAC champion in the 400 intermediate hurdles and triple jump.  Received the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award in 1986.  

Hallie McNeill Ward 96' - The first women's soccer player to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.  Earned All Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors as a goalie in 1994 and 1995.  Named to the NSCAA/Umbro All South Region team as a senior.  Selected as the Most Valuable Women's Soccer Player in 1995.  Currently holds three school records with 13 shutouts in a season, 36 career goals against average and 34 career shutouts.

Neil Brunetz '97 - Named to the All Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference team each of his four years at Rhodes.  Selected as the SCAC Co-Player of the Year his freshman year, then Player of the Year his sophomore and senior seasons.  Participated in the 1997 Umbro All American game.  Currently the school record holder with 64 career goals and 150 points.  Awarded the Walter E. Gay Award as the Most Valuable Senior Athlete at Rhodes in 1997.
